First Meeting
"Was it this way? Or that way? Or..." A kid in his teens with messy black hair, and tattered robes, looks around at the landscape in confusion. The tall thin grass is almost chest height and there are a few tall trees with drooping branches and leaves; almost as if they were weeping. The blue sun light adds to the strangeness of the scenery. Tiny glowing insects seem to swim through the tall grass. "Yeah...I'm so lost," he sighs to himself and leans up against a nearby tree. He climbs up onto the lowest branch, wrapping his tail around it to catch himself in case he slips.

After watching my friend get killed by a traitor, I set out to find the man that is responsible for his death. I took His spear, with a clear almost unbreakable tip, and gather up my gear a maul and my cloak ,to cover the "modification" i had done, and started to walk into the fields to the North. After walking for what seemed for hours i see a strange figure up in one of the only trees in the area. Cautiously I approach the figure to see what it is doing.
ReplyDeleteThe young man groans to himself as he watches the figure approach. I don't need to be bothered again...I just want some peace... He crouches on the tree branch, using his hands to balance himself and shakes the hood from his head. The newcomer can see his horns and long elf-like ears. "Welcome to my tree," he jokes with a fanged grin. I have to be ready to bolt if I need to...
ReplyDeleteI looked up at the figure in the tree with its horns how in full view and asked "Your Tree? And where exactly is "your" tree at?" While waiting for a response I examined the area looking for the best place to strike if this was going to be messy.
ReplyDelete"Heh...it's not really my tree," he chuckles. He tilts his head and looks over the stranger curiously before he relaxes and leans back against the tree trunk with a sigh. "You're lost too? At least you look prepared to be lost." In comparison to the stranger, the young man is thin and has no visible weapons.
ReplyDelete"i'm not lost per-say, I just cant remember where I am. As for the weapons when you been thought what I have you will be ready for anything." I let my guard down some what but im still not sure about this thing in the trees
ReplyDelete"Sounds like being lost to me," he chuckles. Suddenly, he moves as if he were going to fall off the branch, but ends up hanging upside down by his tail. "I'm Godd.... whoa! WAIT!" His sudden movement must have startled the stranger who readies his spear.
ReplyDeleteThe young man falls from the tree, lands in the tall grass with a thud and then pops up behind the trunk after apparently crawling around it. "Hey! Don't point that at me! Sorry! Ow..." he whines, rubbing his head. "Look see...I hurt myself..."
"I thought you were going to make a move towards me so i went to defend my self" This one is a strange thing, but is a nice change then being alone for the past day walking I jab my spear into the ground and offer to help. "here let me help you Godd.." Then a rush of when went by and removed the hood i have over my head reveling that my right eye is red and the right side of my face is all metal. All shit now it knows who i am this can't go well
ReplyDelete"Understandable," he groans and takes a step back. "I'm fine. I've had worse hap..." He blinks quickly and stares at the strangers face for a few seconds before he points at his own eyes. "We're opposites. My left eye is red. The right is blue." He laughs then tilts his head thoughtfully. "However, none of me is metal."
ReplyDeleteYou're not scared of seeing my face? Most people I come across when they see me run away in fear." I decided to remove my cloak as it was hot. Once the cloak is removed it reviles that i have a chain mail vest and legs on as well that the entire right half of my upper body is machine including my arm and the rest of my body is very muscular.
ReplyDelete"My name is Orzad Who and what are you if you don't mind me asking?"
He shakes his head then laughs. "Did you get a good look at me? I get the same reaction you probably get. The name's Goddard by the way." Goddard puts his hands behind his back and bites his lip as he thinks. "What am I? One of those...oh what is it...mutants! Those. Yes! That..." he finally says with a laugh. "What about you...you look..." Goddard tilts his head and squints. "You look...familiar..."
ReplyDelete"Me? Well I'm a man that been threw everything lost everything and the only way to stay living is to fuse whats left of my flesh with steel" I said while look at what is left my my body. "How Do you know me?" I hope He is not from a village i attacked seeking revenge
ReplyDelete"Well...I wouldn't say I know you...just," Goddard quickly jumps up into the tree and thoughtfully picks at the fur on the end of his tail, his legs hanging from the branch. "I feel like I've seen you before...most likely from a dream..."
ReplyDelete"and how often do these "dreams" happen?" Orzad said skeptically and slightly confused, while moving under the tree to rest some in the shade. "And what was I doing in this "dream" of yours?"
ReplyDeleteGoddard taps chin thoughtfully. "They're not my...I mean..." He grits his teeth. "Ya know...you dream every night...different things...what were you doing...hmmm..."
ReplyDeleteHe stares down at Orzad and studies him then closes his eyes. "In the dream...you..." Goddard suddenly opens his red eye. "It was that," he says softly and points to the maul. His eye slowly closes.
"My Maul!?" Orzad Reached for it behind his back and brought it up to his face. "What about my Maul? Tell me! TELL ME!" Orzad said in an aggressive tone
ReplyDeleteOrzad is now standing back up facing Goddard with maul in hand.
With a startled jolt, Goddard opens both his eyes and catches himself on the trunk before he falls out of the tree again. "I-I don't know!" he yells. "Especially if you're going to scare me!" He climbs up to the next branch and stares down again. "Now I'm curious...what did you do..."
ReplyDeleteHe closes his eyes again. For a few seconds, he's very quiet, then he opens his eyes and looks down at Orzad. "You...crushed someone's chest...ow..."
"Never Speak about Him again!" Orzad looked at his maul in hand and had a flash back to that day. Orzad went into a blind rage and starting attacking everyone in his camp. Orzad over powered every man around him knocking them out. Then Orzads Friend try to talk him down and Orzad spun around and with full force Slammed his maul into his friends chest, Crushing the man's rib cage and knocking him unconscious. After 30 minutes Orzad was finally brought back under controlled and was back to normal. Orzad regain control just long enough to say good bye to his best friend, who's chest he just crushed. Orzad dropped to his knees and vowed to get revenge on who ever did this to him, and he started to cry and scream in anger and the last breath of his friend left him. The flashback ended but Orzad was the ground with tears in his eyes and he was brought back to that day.
ReplyDelete"Hey! You crush whoever you have...oh..." Goddard carefully slides down the tree and crouches in the tall grass, wrapping his robes around himself. "I'm sorry...this person meant something to you..." He scoots away from Orzad some more. "Don't squish me..."
ReplyDeleteOrzad brings his self back on his feet whipping the tears from his eyes. "Don't worry the only man I'm going to crush is the man that did this to my So.. best "Friend."" I miss him he died way too young a man should never have to bury his son and should never be the reason why he is dead, I will get my revenge on the man and drive my sons spear right thought his heart Orzad looks over to the Spear still in the ground and has the face of a man with anger, vengeance on his mind .
ReplyDeleteGoddard quietly watches Orzad. He's seem some scary things, but they were all dreams. This man is real but now...what's to say other things dreamed up aren't also real. "This world...it's scary," he mumbles to himself and rests his back against the tree trunk. He beats the grass flat around him with his tail and sighs. More flashing insects appear as the blue light from the sky grows deeper and darker and strange sounds can be heard in the distance.
ReplyDeleteOrzad notices that the sun is going down and he will need to get a fire going in order to survive the night. "We should get a fire going before its too dark" Orzad reaches for a knife on his belt and tosses it to Goddard "get a fire going, I'll see if I can get some food for us" Orzad grabs his spear and start to walk into the tall grass to look for something of worth to eat. It is now completely dark out and Orzad is carrying his catch on his back heading toward the only light source in the area hoping its Goddard and nothing else. Orzad get to the fire and see Goddard do what ever he dose and drops the deer like creature with long neck and legs right by the fire. "dinner Goddard can i have my knife back?" Orzad has his out out waiting for the knife.
ReplyDeleteGoddard hands Orzad the knife without looking up from the small figure he's carving with a claw. "That wasn't easy. I had to do some climbing," he points up. "It was hard to find burnable wood and then all this annoying grass...but I did it and I had time to make this!" He holds up the small crude wooden bird and smiles.
ReplyDelete"So uh...that's dinner huh?" he leans a bit to the side and looks at the creature.
"Yep this is dinner and if your going to complain about it, I will stay here and make smiles while you can go out there and hunt" Orzad Said while tossing some meat onto the fire to start cooking. Once the meat was done Orzad grabbed some meat and tossed it to Goddard "eat up your going to need the strenght. I'll take first watch." Orzad put his knife up and started to eat a some meat. and rest against the tree and start to look and listen around for any sign of trouble
ReplyDelete"I wasn't complaining," Goddard grumbles and folds his arms. "I just never actually saw anything like that in person before..." He watches Orzad work on the animal and finally cook it. Goddard groans and gnaws on the finished product. He shrugs and finishes off the food before curling up under his cloak with a yawn. "That'll work. What do you think out there?" he asks sleepily. "Big monsters that'll eat you whole? Walking mountains?"
ReplyDelete"I don't know. There is something out there, I saw some recent corpses of the same creature just had while I was out hunting" Orzad said still eatting his meal and looking around. I hope tonight well go thought with out a hitch, I'm to tired to fight.
ReplyDeleteHe pulls the hood on his cloak up over his head. "Well...maybe it was nothing...and you look like you can handle anything anyway." Goddard sighs and tries to sleep. He closes his eyes tight but, still obviously awake, his ears twitch around under the hood as they try to listen to every sound.
ReplyDeleteyea maybe it was nothing Orzad looked over and saw goddard was asleep. Orzad tossed some more wood into the fire to keep it going and Orzad stood agains the tree keeping an eye one everything. It is now complete Darkness and the stars were in the sky Orzad has been on watch for 4 hours and is getting extremely tired so he wakes up goddard "Hey wake up, It your turn to take watch." Orzad then found a spot under the trees and started to sleep with his maul right beside him and the spear in his lap.
ReplyDelete"AH! I didn't do it!" Goddard springs awake and frantically looks around. "Oh...that's right..." he chuckles and stretches. "I guess it's my turn to make sure nothing eats us." He leans up against the tree and lazily stares out into the sea of grass, occasionally looking up at the stars. I miss home...
ReplyDeleteOnce Orzad has been asleep for a while, Goddard takes a big deep yawn, swallows then sputters. "Sheesh! That was terrible," he grumbles as he wipes his mouth with the ends of his robe before folding his arms in disappointment.
Orzad wakes up right as the sun start to rise and he noticed that Goddard is asleep.Orzad grabs his gear and knocks Goddard with his foot. "Wake up the sun has risen and its now time for me to carry on with my task You're welcome to join me if you keep up but you will be carrying your own weight around me" Orzad looks around to get his bearings and starts to walk north. Orzad turns around " your coming our not?" then continued walking
ReplyDeleteGoddard slowly falls over onto his side. "Hmmm? I wasn't sleeping," he stretches and sits up, sleepily looking up at Orzard while rubbing one of his eyes. Orzad's words sink in and Goddard quickly gathers the few things he has and follows him. "Ya know...despite what I look like, I can take care of myself," he mumbles. "I'd just rather avoid anything physical like ravenous wild animals in the middle of no where." He quiet for a moment before his curiosity kicks in. "So...what happened? Who're you squishing? Why is your head metal? Were you born metal? Can I be metal?"
ReplyDeleteAfter some reluctance on telling the story to Goddard but with Goddard keep asking Orzad gave in "I wasn't metal when I was first born. I was a normal man, but after 30 years of fighting my body was failing on me and I Was on my death bed. When my son told me about this one guy that could give you a new life in exchange that your body would be replaced by steel. I did not want to die, I wanted to see my son become a great warrior like I was so i took the offer and decided to get a new life not as man but as a machine, But the man that gave me the second life had different plans with me. He wanted to make an army of machines that would kill anyone in their path with out question. I did not notice anything until a week later when I was back at camp and i lost control of my self and started to kill everyone where my son... err friend i meant friend was killed. and I left the camp in shame and head out to kill the man that did this to me and now I'm here"
ReplyDeleteGoddard listens intently then frowns. "I'm sorry," he says softly. "That's horrible. I see why you got mad at me earlier." As they walk, Goddard pulls up pieces of the long grass and weaves them together. "I can't go back home because I didn't do my job...I Have to finish it..." he sighs then tries to cover it up with a laugh. "At least there's all kinds of neat things to find here," he laughs a bit more before getting quiet and continuing to work with the grass.
ReplyDelete"Yes it is my son wish on keeping dad ended up becoming my curse" he said depressingly "so what job did you not finish? And as the neat things in this would I would not know because I've been fighting for as long as I can remember, going form town to town attacking what whoever I was ordered to." Orzad smiles "at lease now I'm my own free man and don't have a officer telling me what to do and how to do it" i realy wish i spend more time with my child and spend time to just enjoy life and smell the roses
ReplyDelete"You're probably not going to believe me when I tell you," Goddard grumbles and tosses the clump of grass behind him. "But...someone is alive who shouldn't be alive. I need to fix this."
ReplyDeleteHe looks up at Orzad walking ahead of him then up at the sky. "Everything is interesting. This grass is interesting. Have you ever looked at pictures of things that you've never seen before and then actually seen that thing later on? It's so...different..." Goddard chuckles. "But a lot of things are disappointing too. I thought people would be able to fly here. I guess not."
"Why must you kill someone? Shouldn't everyone get to chose weather they get to live or not?" Orzad said slightly angry. "I've never seen pictures of something but from drawing of a target, but i don't think that is what you meant. Why did you think people here could fly. Everyone I have seen uses their feet or a horse to get around. DO you people where you're from Fly?" Orzad said with a slight grin
ReplyDeleteGoddard stops walking, growls a bit and narrows his eyes at Orzad. "Well...you're going to go kill someone aren't you? Way to be a hypocrite," he folds his arms and his tail flicks around, annoyed.
ReplyDelete"Unlike you, I have to do this," he sighs as he begins to walk forward again. "And I'm not a huge fan of your attitude right now, buddy!"
"My reasoning is different the man I'm going to kill took my son away from me" Orzad said sadly ,"but why must you kill this person? What did he do to deserve to be sentence to death?"
ReplyDelete"Take from me as a warrior for 60 years and killing hundreds of sons, fathers, and brothers killing is not worth it cause after a while that's all you end up doing and you start to only look at the death and destruction in the world, and not the beauty the world has" Orzad said looking around with the look of depression on his face. "And I'm sorry for how my attitude sounded I do not believe in unjustified killing."
Goddard stretches his arms over his head and sighs. "But that's what I've been doing...dying is something that needs to happen. Imagine if you people didn't die...imagine how many would be crowded around? When your time is up, your time is up."
ReplyDelete"Unjustified or not, it's not my call...this guy isn't supposed to be walking around and he is," he mumbles as he wraps himself up in his cloak. "I mean...I wasn't paying attention but still," Goddard says softly to himself.
If I wasn't off doing whatever, I wouldn't be here...
"You still haven't answered my question what about this one guy says he must die? And who gets to chose weather some ones time is up or not.... You?" Orzad said while grabbing some of the left over meat from last night from his pouch and started to eat.
ReplyDelete"He's just supposed to," Goddard says flatly. "And I don't choose...they...choose," he says sarcastically as he half-heartedly motions up at the sky. He snorts and starts pulling at the frayed ends on his sleeves. "I don't know...never mind..."
ReplyDeletelooks like I'm not going to get the answers I'm after right now. Orzad looks at Goddard unsatisfied. "Do you at lease know where you're going? to find this "man" that you didn't pay attention to when his "time" was up? Hopefully i can get Goddard to rethink this 'I must till this guy because something tells me to.'
ReplyDelete"Nope," Goddard says with a forced grin. "But I'll know when I find him. I know what he looks liiiiiii....." Goddard trips before he can finish his sentence and kicks at the grass. "Stupid tangled grass!" he complains and kicks his feet a bit before he lays still. He rolls over onto his back and runs his sleeve across his scraped chin and winces. "Ow..."
ReplyDeleteOrzad turns around and looks at Goddard and offers to help him up. "So if i heard you correctly; you do not know where this guy is, Why he must die, What his name is, just that you know what he looks like and that something says he die."
ReplyDeleteGoddard grits his teeth and sits up on his own. "I'm fine and I only said I don't know where he is." He gets to his feet on his own and brushes dirt and leaves from his robes. Goddard tucks his hands into the sleeves while he looks down at the ground. He quickly flicks Orzad's leg with his tail, obviously listening for some sort of metal ting sound.
ReplyDeleteOrzad looks down at his feet where Goddard just hit him with his tail "so what was that for?" Orzad said slightly annoyed. "You know the name of the man that your going to be killing?" I really want to know why Goddard is so determined to kill this man.
ReplyDeleteGoddard shakes his head. "You ask too many questions," he says with a nervous laugh. "It doesn't matter. All that matters is that I fix this."
ReplyDelete"And...I was just wondering how much of you was metal...I could have flicked your forehead...but I didn't."
"I only ask so many questions because you are missing so many answers." Orzad chucked back. "And as for the question about me being metal is that's for me to know and you to never find out."
ReplyDelete"I will admitted defeat for now on getting the answers I'm looking for now, but its going to be a long trip until we get to the mysterious man"
Goddard folds his arms and turns away. "I have answers. Just...just not for you is all." No one needs to know what I am... "And I think I got my answer...tin can," he smirks. "I mean...if your head is metal, I can only assume the rest of you is too."
ReplyDeleteHe turns around and looks at Orzad with a raised brow. "And we?" Goddard asks curiously. "You're going to help me? Well that's awfully nice of you," he grins. "I won't have to do a thing! You can just crush him with your...crusher thing here," he says pointing at the maul.
"Do not call me "Tin Can" while my head and arm is metal, I assure you. not -everything- is metal.
ReplyDeleteOrzad turns and faces Goddard "I said I would help you, NOT do everything for you and I also will not kill this "mysterious" man. In fact I will not even touch the man I will just sit there and watch the disaster that will come to follow this fight. If you have a problem with this we can go our different ways when we get to the next town."
"What makes you think it'll be a disaster?" Goddard asks slightly offended.
ReplyDeleteOrzad stares at Goddard " You're kidding me right? I mean look at you your extremely small, no muscle mass, and you even go a few feet with out tripping on something."
ReplyDeleteGoddard grits his teeth and starts to move around Orzad, occasionally batting at his arms and back with a lightly closed fist or his tail. "Come on sparky...I bet you couldn't even catch me," he taunts with a grin. He moves around the tall grass quickly and his robes obscure his movement a bit.
ReplyDelete"I don't need to catch you" Orzad grabs his spear and while holding the tip of the spear with his right hand thrusts it into the grass. "I just have to wait for you to run into me." And hits Goddard in the leg as he run passes.
ReplyDeleteGoddard stumbles over the obstacle but manages to catch himself, using his tail to help balance. "What makes you think I'm going to run into you?" Goddard stands still and squints at Orzad. "You think I'm an idiot?"
ReplyDelete"Well.." Orzad how hits Goddard that is standing still in the chest with the Blunt end of his spear knocking the wind out of him. "Yea I do" Orzad standing right besides the winded Goddard now
ReplyDeleteThe air rushes out of his lungs and he lands on his backside with a thud. Goddard quickly passes his sleeve across his eyes and takes a shaky breath before standing back up. He doesn't look at Orzad or say anything and is obviously embarrassed. He walks by the victor and punches him as hard as he can in his metal arm as he passes by.
ReplyDeleteGoddard yelps and shakes his hand in pain and looks behind him at Orzad, annoyed.
"We done now or do you want to go for another round and next time I'll use the Sharper end" Orzad said while turning around to face Goddard and Sping his spear around. "and also I have a name its Orzad or "Zed" if you like but not Tin can or Sparky. We clear?"
ReplyDelete"Why would you even say that?" Goddard grumbles and stuffs his hands into his pockets. "Use the sharper end? Messed up..." He sniffles a bit. "And whatever...Zed...we can try again later I guess...it won't be so easy..."
ReplyDelete"Well consider yourself lucky: most men i hit in the chest don't get back up" Orzad said as he was storing his weapons on his belt around his back. "So where we going?"
ReplyDeleteGoddard rolls his eyes. "Well...it's not like you wanted to kill me..." He stops in his tracks and looks at Orzad, his long ears drooping a bit. "Right? I mean...you aren't suggesting that because you want to kill me?"
ReplyDelete"I'm just saying you're one of the first that I have fought that I didn't kill... yet" Orzad said while waiting for Goddard to tell him witch way to go
ReplyDeleteGoddard stares at Orzad in disbelief and shakes his head. "You really are all metal huh? That's just cold...you don't have to kill everyone you fight with...especially when it's just sparing and not real..."
ReplyDeleteHe walks backward, facing Orzad then tilts his head for a moment before laughing. "Oh...you think I know where we're going? You're funn..." Since he wasn't looking where he was going, Goddard's heel slams into a tree root, tripping him and sending him splashing into a lake.
The lake would have been a little tough to spot even if Goddard was facing forward. It's on a slight downward slope, there are only three trees around it and the tall green swaying grass hides it fairly well.
"I'm drowning! Help!" Goddard sputters and splashes. "Oh..." He sits up and the water is only waist high. "Um...I guess I'm ok..."
"Its not cold of some one that has been a warrior for all of their life and trained to think every fight will be there last." Orzad said.
ReplyDeleteOrzad saw Goddard fall down into the lake behind him and starts to Laugh "See what I mean you trip over everything and how are we going to find this man if you don't even know where he is?"
Orzad jumps into the shallow lake and cleans the dirt off his body and weapons
"But...it was just a spar!" Goddard complains, shaking water out of his hair and splashing Orzad. "Junk pile jerk..." he mumbles to himself as he makes his way toward a tree. "Well...I can put dreams together and get an idea...but we need to find somewhere that isn't just trees and grass."
ReplyDeleteHe takes the wet robes off and hangs them from a low tree branch. The loose robes seemed to have hidden how scrawny and pale he really was. Under the robes, he has nothing but ragged pants and worn boots. Goddard pulls a dagger from each boot before he kicks them off, then places both of the small weapons into a single boot.
He slides back down to the lake to wash his face. His body has many thin shallow scars and one larger scar along his ribs. "Maybe we can go fishing," he says thoughtfully, standing up and looking out over the lake. "That is...if there are fish in there. Could be a monster in there...or monsters..."
"It might of been a Spar now but you know what would happen in the next fight" Orzad said while getting out of the lake. "Put dreams together? what you mean by that?"
ReplyDeleteOrzad took his cloak and chain mail vest off and tossed right beside Goddard's clothing showing more scars across his chest and more metal on the right shoulder connecting the metal on his neck and arm.
"So are you planning on going fishing for this fish?"
"It would still be a spar!" Goddard says annoyed. "Though...next time we fight, I might be forced to stab you just based on how much of a pain you are," he smirks and dips the very tip of his furry tail into the water.
ReplyDelete"And...you wouldn't get it," he mumbles, flicking his tail up. "You need imagination and ya know...feelings to get it."
He looks over at Orzad then back at the water. "At least there are fish in here. No idea if we can eat them but we'll see..." He clambers up a slope and then climbs into the tree, snapping branches and shaking his head after examining them.
The world is a dangerous place and I wouldn't alwas be there to help you with your fights." Orzad says with a straight face
ReplyDeleteGoddard stares at a branch in confusion for a moment. "What is that supposed to mean?" he snorts and rips the smaller branches and leaves from the stick. "Yeah...this should work," he smiles to himself, jumping down from the tree and landing in a crouched position. Goddard stands up and walks over to his cloak then rips a long string from it to use on his makeshift fishing rod. Carefully, he pulls a metal pin from one of his boots, shapes it into a hook and ties it onto the end of the string.
ReplyDelete"It means we are a not immortal and one day we all will die, and if your not properly prepared you'll die before your time is up." Orzad see Goddard finishing up his fishing rod At lease he wont starve to death "I'll get a fire going" Orzad finds a patch of grass and cuts all the grass then he grabs his maul and with all his force slams into the ground leaving a mini pit in the ground. Orzad starts to place the grass clippings in the pit now and grabs some wood to fuel the fire.
ReplyDelete"Really?" Goddard says sarcastically as he slaps a bug on his arm. He puts it on the hook and begins to try fishing. "When your time is up, your time is up," he shrugs. "Doesn't matter how prepared or unprepared you are."
ReplyDeleteHe sits by the water for a long while, casting out and waiting. He's quiet for once and seems relaxed. His tail doesn't move much compared to its usual, almost agitated flicking.
Goddard catches four small fish before the rod is suddenly and violently ripped from his hands. He stares at the water in disbelief and grabs the fish he was able to catch. "Well! I guess we aren't going swimming or anything," he says, nervously backing away from the lake's edge.
"With preparation you can fight back and prevent someone that from ending you before your ready."
ReplyDeleteOrzad sees the four small fish in the hands of the startled Goddard "Where is your fishing pole?" Orzad looks over Goddard's shoulders at the lake.
"Something just...ripped it from me. Maybe it was something big? But, big or small, it sure was strong!"
ReplyDeleteGoddard chuckles to himself. "You will never be ended before you are ready. If you make it out, it's because you were supposed to. If you cheat something like that....well...you end up with somethi...someone like me coming after you to fix said cheater." He bites his lip and pushes past Orzad, making his way to his belongings. Goddard grabs one of his daggers and gets to the task of cleaning the fish.
"Something Ripped if from your hands?"
ReplyDelete"What do you mean if you cheated and someone like you comes after them to fix it? Is this the same reason why you are after the mysterious man?" Orzad observed Goddard cleaning the fish waiting for an answer.
Goddard grits his teeth. "would you shut up already! Sheesh...I already explained what I could to you. It's just going to be the same answer." Goddard smirks. "Does you model of tin can not come with any sort of memory banks?" He laughs and shakes his head before finishing up the fish.
ReplyDeleteHe strings the fish by the gills and holds them up for Orzad. "I caught them and almost was dragged into the depths of that lake. You can cook them."
"You have not answer my questions Completely, you have several holes in the answers like why must this guy die, who's telling you to kill him, how has he "cheated" so someone like you must go after him?" Orzad said with an increased voice
ReplyDeleteOrzad takes the fish from Goddard "Fine I'll cook those for you" Orzad sets up a smoking rack, while grumbling under his breath, with some sticks and string and starts to smoke the fish.
Instead of answering, Goddard hugs his knees and looks at Orzad annoyed. When Orzad turns his back, Goddard sticks his tongue out at him and sighs.
ReplyDeleteHis head must be made of lead... Goddard chuckles to himself and waits patiently for the fish to be cooked.
After an hour the fish are done and Orzad yells out "Fish is done." Orzad walks over to where Goddard is at and hands him a fish "So... the answers?"
ReplyDeleteGoddard snatches the fish from Orzad and spins where he sits, turning his back to him. His tail swishes from side to side, almost happily, as Goddard munches away at the food.
ReplyDelete"So your not going to be speaking to me?" Orzad said while looking for a spot to rest, When a large slim beast emerges form the lake and with its four muscular legs jumps from the shore of the lake and lands right by the fire twenty feet away. The best then eats the remaining two fish over the fire with on quick movement. The beast is now in-between Goddard and Orzad and facing Goddard. Orzad gets his maul and yells out "Goddard run!!". Orzad swings with all his might and the beast dodges the attack and turns around to face Orzad. As the beast turned around the sound of a whip cracking shoot thought the air. The beast used it tail to hit Goddard right in the back of the head.
ReplyDeleteOrzad looks at Goddard to see if he is ok but before he could say anything the beast lunges at him and Orzad uses his maul to hit the beast as it in the air and trys to follow up with another full strength swing. The beast was able to recover from the first hit and dodge the second before it landed leaving a indent in the ground. this creature is too fast for the maul, I need my spear Orzad looks around for his spear and see it behind him laying against a tree. Orzad runs to the tree and get his spear and was able to turn around right as the beast scratched him in the face. Orzad punches the beast right in the jaw to get it off and then thrusts the spear into the chest of the beast. The beast screams in pain and using it tail to whip Orzad in the face as it retreats back to teh lake with the spear still in it's chest.
Orzad got up and went over to Goddard to see if he was alright.
Goddard doesn't even have time to see the creature before everything goes black for a moment. He blinks a few times through the pain and then feels something wet on his head. It drips into his eyes and he quickly wipes the stinging liquid with the back of his hand. It's blood. He must have hit his forehead on a rock when he fell forward.
ReplyDelete"Damn," he mutters under his breath as he stands up on shaky legs. Goddard pulls a dagger from his boot with one hand and puts the other hand on his head to keep more blood from getting into his eyes. "What was that? And where did it go?"
"I do not know what that was but I'm going to find out, it went back into the lake and I'm going after it" Orzad removed his armor and jumped right into the lake with just a dagger.
ReplyDeleteThe lake was very murky and Orzad couldn't see where he was or where the beast was. Then the beast attacked Orzad and tore up his back with it's claws. Orzad grins in pain and swings around behind him and attempt to see the beast but the beast is still to fast in the water. The beast attacked again, but this time Orzad was able to catch the beasts tail and held on. The beast tried to shake Orzad off Slamming him into walls and the bottom of the lake. Even jumped out of the lake and cracked his tail like a whip to try to toss Orzad off. Orzad after thirty mins or trashing around Orzad was extremely tired and let go but the beast was also worn out. Orzad and the beast just stared at each other and Orzad musters up enough strength to grabs the beast by the head and shoves his dagger into the beast head. The beast sank to the bottom of the lake as a rush of blood form the beast wound rushes up to the surface of the lake leaving a red spot in the middle of the lake in clear view of where Goddard was. Orzad lay beside the beast as he regained some of his Strength.
After a hour of jumping into the lake the beast started to appear in view of the shore near the camp but Orzad wasn't in sight. Then Orzad showed with his spear in his hand and the beast on his back. Orzad placed the beast right by the camp fire and collapsed. Orzad finally had a chance to get a good view of the beast and saw it had dark blue fur with patches of green strips the same color of the grass. This beast looks like it is an ambush praetor with its extreme speed, If this thing attacked us when we were asleep i doubt we would of made it. Orzad resumes to examine the beast and noticed its paws had razor sharp claws and webbing between each claw. Orzad then looks at the beast's tail and saw that there was a fin on the back of it but the tip of the fin had tiny bones sticking out that were sharp.
"I so hope that was a fully grown adult and by it's self" Orzad muttered to him self, "because if there are more of them that are bigger this will be a short time in the plains."
"What!? Are you nuts!?" Goddard calls after Orzad as he jumps into the water after the monster. Goddard can't see anything for a moment. The water is murky and dark. "What an idiot," he mumbles to himself. Suddenly, there is splashing and thrashing in the water and Goddard gasps and backs up into a tree.
ReplyDeleteI doubt swimming animals climb trees... He looks up at the tree and winces. Just the thought of trying to climb this makes his head hurt more. He tucks the dagger away and struggles up the tree. It wasn't as difficult as he thought it would be, but it still took quite a bit of effort. From up here, Goddard has a much better view of Orzad and the beast in the water.
He's so dead... Holding on tight to the branch, Goddard tries to see exactly what's going on through the muck and splashing and which of the two combatants might actually be winning. Tired of constantly causing pain to himself fom trying to keep the blood out of his eye, he just keeps it closed, looking on with his very pale blue eye.
After some time, Goddard's ears droop as he spots red blooming up from beneath the water and all goes still. Nothing happens for what feels like forever. "Am...I all alone again," he says softly. He draws a quick breath and grits his teeth when the creature reemerges. Well damn... Goddard begins to almost fade a bit and then flickers back to normal when Orzad leaps onto the beast and finishes it.
Once Orzad speaks and Goddard feels certain the animal is dead, he hops down from the tree. He stumbles and falls but quickly stands back up from landing on his hands and knees. He looks up angrily at Orzad and punches him as hard as he can in the arm, despite the fact that he knows it's metal. He doesn't react to the pain in his hand and instead says, "You idiot."
Goddard makes his way back to the tree and sits underneath it. He wipes his eyes with his sleeves as his tail reaches for his pack. Once he pulls it close, he tries to take care of the wound on his forehead. He manages to tie up his fairly long hair on top of his head in a silly pony tail, despite the horns, and uses a small mirror held by his tail to see what he's doing.
Orzad gets up from examining the beast and looks at Goddard, who is dressing his wounds, "What was that for?" Orzad said slight annoyed but to tired to really care.
ReplyDeleteOrzad went to he gear and grabbed some tools from his pack and walked to an area he believes Goddard cant see him and starts to repair the damages done to him from the beast.
Goddard's eyes peek up from behind the mirror and he stares at Orzad blankly then shakes his head. Lead head...OH! That's a good one!
ReplyDeleteA soft snickering can be heard from Goddard as he goes back to taking care of his injury. Once he's pleased with the bandage, he gets his belongings ready and waits for Orzad. He assumes they will no longer be hanging around this lake after a creature from it attacked them.
Orzad finishes up the repairs on his body and quickly packs up his gear into his pack. "You okay?" Orzad asked with a concern tone.
ReplyDeleteOrzad Noticed that Goddard is all packed up and ready to go. "I take it you don't want to be staying here for the night?" Orzad looks at the sky and see the sun is less then twenty minutes form setting. "If we going to be leaving in the middle of the night we going to need to have some light to see just in case you fall into something again I can stop and walk around it." Orzad said trying to keep a straight face. Orzad went to the tree and chopped a descent size branch and wrapped some cloth form his torn cloak around it and stuck that into the fire to create a torch.
Orzad started to walk off into the darkness.
"Yeah...I'm fine," Goddard mumbles softly, gingerly touching his head. Could have been worse...I've gotten worse... He then raises a brow and looks over at Orzad.
ReplyDelete"Noooooo," he says sarcastically. "I want to stay by the lake that just had a killer beast inside of it. I feel most comfortable around such death traps!"
He folds his arms and turns away from Orzad. "Not my fault the lake was just there like that." His ears twitch at the sound of movement and he quickly turns around to see Orzad walking away. "HEY! Don't leave me here ya scrap pile!" Goddard yells after Orzad and quickly catches up.
"Hope you're not scared of the dark." Orzad said while looking at Goddard, "I figure we have about two hours of light before the torch goes out. then we will have to decide weather to to carry or make a camp."
ReplyDelete"You don't like to be left alone do you?" Orzad said to Goddard jokingly
"Afraid of the dark? I come from the dark," Goddard scoffs. "We can make camp later I guess," he shrugs and kicks at the ground. "I just didn't want to be around the death lake and have it be dark."
ReplyDelete"I've been alone a lot," Goddard says without snark or with any of his usual inflections. "I guess I'm used to it...except here...there are things here that I've never had to deal with before."
He's quiet for a while before he asks, "How old was he?"
"How old was who? My son...." Orzad paused in place and started to think back to his son. Orzad let a slight smile when he remember his son was born eighteen years ago and on that Day Orzad knew his son, Gustaf, would be a great like his father. Orzad expression changed form happy to anger as he remembered that his son was taken from him. "Why do you want to know?"
ReplyDeleteGoddard stands beside Orzad and watches his expression. Oh...the tin man can smile...even just a little bit... He then takes a step back when Orzad appears angry and his ears lay flat against his head. "Just curious...sheesh," Goddard mumbles and takes a few more steps backward so he's behind Orzad again.
ReplyDelete"It was nothing you said, Just when eve I think about my son all I can fell in hatred for the man that did this to me." Orzad said trying to calm his self down and reassure Goddard that he was not angry at him.
ReplyDelete"You think this is far enough from the lake to set up camp, the torch is about out and I rather not walk around here in pitch darkness"
"Whatever," Goddard mumbles. He pulls a fist sized metal orb from a pouch on the side of his back pack and tosses it into the air a few times before it suddenly makes a soft whirring sound and floats on it's own. It hovers around Goddard's shoulders and an iris in the center of it opens and almost seems to blink, revealing a soft red glow. It turns toward Orzad then buzzes softly.
ReplyDelete"Don't worry. You're fine," Goddard sighs quietly. The orb makes some more soft sounds and Goddard laughs. "Shh shhh that's mean VOX..."
Orzad turns around to see what Goddard is doing. "Who are you talking to? And what is that your floating near you? What is that I've never seen something like that before.
ReplyDelete"This is VOX," Goddard says as he tries to point at the orb as it floats about. "I have no idea what it is. I found it a while ago and it's kept me company."
ReplyDelete"VOX, this is Orzad." The orb makes a few buzzing sounds and hovers over Goddard's head, between his horns. "It's shy," he chuckles.
"umm.... Hi?" Orzad said confused
ReplyDeleteThe torch is on starting to flicker "Goddard you mind clearing an area for a fire-pit, while I look for something to burn around here that won't catch the fields on fire."
Orzad looks around and see there's really nothing in the area to burn besides grass so Orzad takes out his knife and cuts down the driest sections of grass he can find and takes them back to Goddard
Goddard hacks away at the grass to prepare a spot for them to settle down for the night. Once he is done, and Orzad hasn't returned, he curls up with his backpack as a pillow and sighs. So tired...and hungry...
ReplyDeleteWhen Orzad appears, Goddard doesn't move. He simply opens his eyes after having closed them for a moment, and in the growing darkness, Orzad can see a very faint blue and red glow.
Orzad returns to see Goddard lying on the ground and didn't move when he returned "You alright Goddard?" orzad said concerned, while he waited for a answer Orzad started a fire and went though his pack to see what he had to eat. Orzad noticed he was down to some scrapes of the "deer" they had killed a few days earlier.
ReplyDelete"I'm fine," he whispers. Goddard slowly sits up, stretches, and yawns. A strange growling sound comes from his direction and he clasps his hands over his abdomen and laughs. "So uh...what's for dinner?"
ReplyDeleteOrzad looks at the scrape of meat in his hand and hands it to Goddard. "It's not much but it's all we have, so here, you need to recover your strength."
ReplyDeleteGoddard takes the bit of food and quietly eats it. When he's done, he sighs and hugs his knees, sleepily watching the fire.
ReplyDelete"You get some sleep I'll take watch" Orzad said softly. Orzad found an area and propped himself up with his maul. Orzad sits there and watches the skies. Its going to be light soon we've been walking for a while. Orzad noticed a small field near Orzad.
ReplyDeleteOnce Orzad is confident that Goddard is asleep, Orzad sneaks off to the small field near him and see what he can find.
After watching the fire for a while, Goddard frowns and flops over onto his side, still holding his knees. Imma still be hungry till you sleep...ugh... He sighs and closes his eyes and tries to sleep. His ears constantly twitch at the sounds of different bugs and animals but he's otherwise very still.
ReplyDeleteHe opens his eyes in time to watch Orzad walk off and he groans as he closes his eyes again and curls up in his cloak.
I've got to find food soon Orzad entered the small field and noticed there was several Wild berries just growing in the ground , the berries were red with green spots and fuss all over. Snawsberry, they are sour but juicy and as long as you do not eat the skin you'll be fine. Orzad takes his cloak holds in a way to carry the berries and starts to pick them
ReplyDeleteOrzad returns to Goddard after only a few mins with several Snawsberries, "Goddard, Goddard wake up I got some food." Orzad said softy in Goddard's ear
"Not so close," Goddard mumbles and rolls over before sitting up. He yawns and rubs his eyes. "Food? I'm so hungry," he whispers. "What did you find? I hope it's a lot of whatever it is."
ReplyDelete"I found some Snawsberries, I got all I could carry, they are really good have a sour taste to them but very juicy, just do not eat the skin or it will make you very sick." as Orzad was explanming what he found was he dropped the pile of 10 Snawsberries, each the size of a Apple, in a pile near Goddard and started to peal one and handed it to Goddard then pealed himself one as well.
ReplyDeleteGoddard raises a brow and snatches the fruit from Orzad and then grabs another, unpeeled one. He holds the peeled one in his mouth for a second while he pulls out a dagger and begins to peel the second fruit, taking a moment to switch the dagger to his tail a few times so he can eat the fruit.
ReplyDelete"I think I can peel a berry," Goddard mutters as he finishes eating one.
"yes you can but, I figured you were to weak from hungry to peel one, Sooo... How is the fruit?" Orzad said while munching down on his
ReplyDelete"Really?" he says annoyed. "Oh poor me! So weak I can't even peel the skin off a defenseless fruit! AH!" He drops the dagger and sucks on his finger before it starts to bleed too badly. "Ignore that," he grumbles and shifts in his place so his back is to Orzad.
ReplyDelete"I've dealt with worse than some stupid fruit...and...it's good...thanks..." Goddard mutters.
"Just trying to help. Well lets get some sleep." Orzad folds up his cloak into a pillow. "This world is a dangerous place, with several things that want to kill or harm you, so I would take all the help I could get no matter how pointless it is." Orzad said while trying to keep his eyes open.
ReplyDelete"HA!" Goddard cheers triumphantly while peeling the third fruit. He holds up the peel and it's in one single swirly piece. He lays down on his back and looks up at the sky as he munches on the berry. It's not what I need, but it's working I guess...
ReplyDeleteOrzad wakes up and its noon now. He rolls over "Goddard you up?" Orzad stands up and put his cloak back on, "We should carry on north."
ReplyDeleteOrzad can hear the sound of metal on metal. Goddard's daggers clink against VOX as the orb zips around. VOX then hits Goddard in his forehead and zig zags away before he can hit it again with the dagger. "OW! You little metal menace!" he grins.
